A federal officer with the Department of Homeland Security fired his weapon while in a fit of road rage. The off-duty officer has a history of aggressive behavior and has been charged with aggressive assault and shooting into an occupied vehicle.
Officer Angel Echevarria shot into a red Toyota after it cut him off in Boca Raton, Fla. Echevarria claimed he aimed for the tires, so that the vehicle couldn’t flee the scene, but police said too much time elapsed between the traffic violation and the shooting to justify Echevarria’s story.
Three people including a two-year-old child were riding in the Toyota, though none were injured.
Former New York State Patrol Captain Robert Buchholz said, “There’s no reason to do that. Not for an off-duty police officer, a federal officer or civilian.”
The details regarding Echevarria’s arrest are concealed, suggesting the government is trying to protect their aggressive officer.
